RE: ESU BR 245 short circuit problem

#1 von cychan1228 , 06.04.2020 15:06

Hello everyone

My ESU BR 245 ran perfectly before but it short circuited after I had stored it for a while. I dismantled the loco but couldn't find any problems. Has anyone experienced the same problem before?

Thanks
Chris

Hello Chris,

you are using the DC-version?
So, did you forget to dismantle the AC-slider?
If you dismanteled it, can you check if the loco really is on DC supply?
A friend had another ESU-loco and the AC-DC-switch got hanging sometimes...

Good luck
Railstefan

Hello Railstefan

Yes I run on DC and I had removed the AC slider.
Now I managed to solve the short-circuit problem but the decoder is not responding on the loco (the decoder works fine on the decoder tester though).

Hello Chris,

may I ask what the short-circuit problem was?

If now you have no short-circuit, a decoder that is working fine outside the loco, it sounds as there are some connection issues in the loco.

You inserted the decoder inthe right direction? What connection does the loco have? mtc21?

Please unplug the decoder and do the following tests:
- please check, if there is a connection between both rails and respective pins in the connector
If not, try to find the reason
If yes, your decoder should at least react on commands - did you try lights?

Good luck
Stefan

RE: ESU BR 245 short circuit problem

Hello Stefan

The short circuit problem was caused by the wires in the front bogie used to pick up DC/AC power. I re-soldered the wires on the bogie and the problem went away.

I tested the 21MTC decoder on ESU decoder tester, and it works well. But once I put the decoder back to the loco, there was no response. The loco had no response on DC either. I tried putting back the blank decoder and ran on DC, but no response!

Seems there is something wrong on the circuit board.

Chris
