A question for the experts: The user guide for both models shows in an illustration a place that states "Anschlussmöglichkeit für Innenbeleuchtung." Can someone tell me what that means? I read it to say Connection possibility for interior lighting. If that is correct, does someone know how to use this connection?

Hello Steve,

That's right! As far as I remember these pads have a connection with pin 3 and pin 7 of the decoder Interface ("NEM 652 8-polig"). For the pins of this interface have a look here:

red / black = wheels
white = lightning front
yellow = lightning rear
blue = + for all functions (lightnings, couplings,...)
grey / orange = motor
green = function 1

So if you connect interior lights with this pads (3 and 7), you can switch it on/off with a digital decoder plugged into the interface (normally with function f1).

Please note: before fitting interior lights into the train, it is necessary to paint the bodies inside because otherwise the lights may shine through the complete bodies. For this I used a light grey Revell colour. The real trains also have grey walls inside.

Thank you, Robert! So, I understand you to say that these pads are connected to the DCC interface plug, so that a decoder will power them? I have read so much on the web about these railcars and how to add interior lighting and no where do people mention these pads!

Hello Steve,

yes, the interior lights normally have 2 wires. One of them must be connected with the first pad and the other wire with the second pad. The result must be a connection with the pins 3 and 7 of the decoder.
You also can check this with a multimeter. The resistance between the pads and the interface pins 3 or 7 must be nearly 0, then you also know which pad is connected with which interface pin. The polarity normally doesn't matter because most of the interior lights with LEDs have a rectifier on board. If not and the lights don't work, only change the wires (LEDs are poled components, bulbs are not).

I see. I note in the instructions about these pads, ROCO labels one of the pads ,Innen', which I understand to mean inner or towards the center. Does this mean anything in terms of wiring?

Hello Steve,

now I had a look into the train's manual because my tuning was several years ago.
The word "innen" named in Fig. 7 of the manual means that you can see the pads only after removing the plastic interior with the seats. These pads you will only find in the motor coach; you also have to connect the interior lights of the motor coach with the interior lights in the coaches before and behind. Have a look at the added plan.

Robert - Ich habe zwei Kabel auf der Lötstelle gelötet mit eine LED. Die LED ist beleuchtet, aber die Funktiontasten F0 oder F1 hat keine Effekt. Die LED ist immer auf. Muß Ich die Funktion programmieren?

ich weiß nicht mehr, mit welchen Interface-Pins die Pads ab Werk verbunden sind. Einfach den Weg der Kabel / Leiterbahnen verfolgen und auf Pin 3 und 7 ändern, falls es NICHT diese Pins sind.
Bei den Decodern ohne Sound schaltet F1 ab Werk Ausgang 1.

Die Lötstellen werden mit den roten und schwarzen Stiften befestigt . Das sind Schienenstifte. So wird das Licht immer eingeschaltet, richtig sein? So ein harte Nuss! Danke sehr viel, Robert.
